A20-year-old Bulawayo woman has been arrested for unlawful termination of pregnancy and dumping the foetus at a dumping site.
Bulawayo Provincial Police spokesperson, Inspector Abednico Ncube identified the suspect as Roylnn Ncube of Phelandaba suburb.
“On the 4th of February 2023, a female adult aged 37 years was walking along a path when she noticed flies around something. She drew closer and observed that it was a dumped human foetus which was in a decomposing state. She made a report to the police,” he said.
He said the body was taken to United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) mortuary for post-mortem.
Inspector Ncube said after the incident, the police received a tip-off on Wednesday to the effect that the accused unlawfully terminated the pregnancy.
“The police proceeded to her place of residence, interviewed her and she admitted to the allegations leading to her arrest,” he said.
He urged members of the public to accept the reality that might have befallen them and seek assistance from elders or relatives.
“We also encourage parents and communities to support the youth when they find themselves pregnant so as not to push them into terminating pregnancies,” said Inspector Ncube.
