Singing gospel is in my DNA

Plucked from the in the marginalized community of Gokwe North is rising gospel musician Pilot Mabato (38)who believes singing is his calling .


In an interview with The Harare Times recently, Mabato chronicled his musical journey.


“Music has always been an inborn talent for me and I started singing way back when I was a teenager while in secondary school around 2001.


“I started recording professionally after completing my Ordinary levels in 2008,”Mabato bares.


“I sing gospel songs relating from the teachings of the bible, preaching the word of God and giving hope to people well as warning them about the second coming of Jesus Christ and encouraging people to repent from doing evil”, he added.


The artiste has two albums under his belt draws his inspiration from fellow gospel artiste Gift Mahlupeka Moyo.


“I have two albums namely Siya Zvenyika and Timunamate plus four single tracks.


“Gift Mahlupeka Moyo has been my biggest inspiration helping me out on how to compose and sing songs .I really owe him,”the affable musician said.


Asked if piracy was not a threat to his career, the former Kasonde Primary School pupil said he is ‘still safe’ since he is an upcoming.


Mabato is married to Rutendo Gutu and the couple is blessed with 3 boys.
