BULAWAYO – Douglas Mwonzora’s led MDC councilors have become bootlickers loyal to their party than the residents following the recalling of their fellow members, according to a residents leader in Bulawayo.
Claude Phuthi, the Bulawayo Progressive Residents Association (BPRA) Programs Officers said residents have been left with no actual representative.
“First residents have been denied representation by a person of their choice at council chambers, a level were policies and other critical decisions that directly affect them.
“Secondly, it has made the current crop of councilors to be more loyal and push their party agendas rather than the interests of the citizens who voted them in.
“Hence we have seen service delivery declining drastically with no-one being held accountable for example the Emganwinwi, Luveve and Tshabalala extension water contamination crisis,” he said.
The Douglas Mwonzora-led MDC-T recalled over a one hundred (100) councilors across the country in a purge aimed at weakening his opponent Nelson Chamisa.
This created vacancies across many urban and rural councils.
President Mnangagwa has since announced March 26 as the date for by-elections to replace the recalled councilors.
However, in a twist of fate Mwonzora’s MDC-T has struggled to finds candidates for many of the vacant seats.
