HARARE – Ruling party Zanu PF Secretary for External Relations Cde Simbarashe Mumbengegwi held a fruitful discussion with
Cuban Ambassador to Zimbabwe ,Carmelina Ramirez Rodriguez during her courtesy call at the Party Headquarters Thursday last week
Speaking after the meeting, the two shared notes on how to remain steadfast even amidst the continued renewal of the United States of America illegally imposed sanctions.
Also under discussion was how social media has been used as a tool for destruction and how the two countries are fairing with the covid-19 pandemic.
“The opposition here have become masters of using social media and stage managed abductions to tarnish our Party, ZANU PF and the Government,” Cde Mumbengegwi said.
“It is the same situation with Zimbabwe which is under sanctions. They say the sanctions are targeted at certain individuals. They have seen though that the sanctions are not working and have accepted that they are losing but they are still fighting.”
He added that, he wondered how such a small country could be a threat to America.
The Secretary took time to congratulate the Ambassador and her Government for being a democratic country seen through Cuba’s smooth transition from one Administration to another.
The Cuban Ambassador noted that there is need for the countries to be strong and protect their people.
“It’s very tough for us with 214 measures of sanctions on individuals and Cuban enterprises and this is affecting investment. We are producing five vaccines, we have the formula and equipment but we need raw materials,” the Ambassador said.
“They continue squeezing small countries like Cuba and Zimbabwe and we wonder how we are a threat to America.”
She added that Cuba “has passed a resolution to stop the use of the United States Dollar because America put the country on the terrorist list.”
She highlighted that just like in Zimbabwe, America continues to manipulate the unemployed to peddle their lies.
