Zimbabweans can now assess how foreign currency paid to companies by the central bank is being used and distributed as regulatory authorities have published a list of beneficiaries.
A list of those who have benefited from the foreign currency auction system since its inception in June last year has been released.
Experts believe the list will enable Zimbabweans to assess whether beneficiaries are using the funds towards productivity and price stability.
“It is all about transparency because there are allegations that some of the funds are being abused so let’s wait and see how this goes,” said Dr Zack Murerwa Stallone Consultancy Managing Director.
“Sometimes when things of such a nature happens it is always in the interest of the public to also see for themselves the developmental elements,” said Mr Kudzai Pasipanodya, Battery Manufacturers Association President.
“Foreign currency is scarce and while it is really of greater interest to the people it also becomes imperative to account for it,” said Mr James Makiya, a Commercial Lawyer.
According to the list, over 1500 entities have been allotted in excess of one comma three billion United States Dollars at the main auction system, while more than two thousand small and medium enterprises have received more than 100 million United States Dollars.
