HARARE – President Emmerson Mnangagwa has reiterated his government’s commitment to luring and promoting foreign direct investment into Zimbabwe’s infrastructural development.
He was speaking during the launch of Larfarge Cement Phase 1 project in Harare today.
“This event is testimony that Zimbabwe is Open for Business and Dialogue. Our arms remain outstretched to welcome investors from across the world.
“My government continues to implement a broad array of the ease and cost of doing business reforms and improving the overall investment climate,” he said.
President Mnangagwa urged Larfarge Cement to expand its products to meet a diverse range of needs in the economy.
“I am advised that Phase 1 involve the opening of a Dry Mortar Plant which manufacture cement value-added building materials. The fact that the plant is the largest in Southern Africa and the first Larfarge Holcim Dry Plant of this magnitude in Africa must translate to increased product outputs such as tile adhesives, floor solutions, plasters and water proofing solutions, among others, not just for our local market but for export.”

He said the Larfarge expansion project comes as government is scaling up and accelerating infrastructure development projects throughout the country.
“These investments by Larfarge Zimbabwe are indeed groundbreaking and dovetail with my administration’s call to adopt and adapt those technologies in all sectors.
“Meanwhile, I exhort Lafarge Cement Zimbabwe and other players in the industry to enhance collaboration with Universities and Institutions of higher learning as we modernise all facets of our economy and society,” he said.
President Mnangagwa said last week, during the tour by Cabinet of the Zimbabwe Innovation Hubs and Industrial Parks, he directed the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development to convene workshops with industry and commerce on a yearly basis.
“Together they must develop appropriate skills capacities more responsive technologies, products and service to meet present and future needs.”
