Zimbabwe women get ODI, Test status

All full permanent member nations get test, ODI status

By Tafadzwa Mupfururirwa

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has awarded Zimbabwe women permanent ODI and Test status.

It means that they along with Bangladesh and Afghanistan are now free to play Test cricket.

“It was decided that Test and ODI status shall be permanently awarded to all Full Member women’s teams,” the ICC said on Thursday after a board meeting.

The three countries join India, West Indies, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, South Africa, Netherlands, Ireland, England, Australia and Pakistan in playing the long format of the game.

Zimbabwe has been a full member of the ICC since 1992 and its men’s team has been playing the long format since then.

Test status means Zimbabwe women will have the opportunity to test themselves regularly against the bigger teams.
