Government Meets Workers Over Welfare

HARARE – Government is set to meet workers’ representatives under the National Joint Negotiating Council (NJNC) this Friday to deliberate on the welfare of its workers.
In a statement, Public Service Commission Secretary, Ambassador Jonathan Wutawunashe said the meeting will deliberate on a Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) and other matters that relate to the welfare of civil servants.

He said government is satisfied that preparations for the opening of schools are proceeding well, adding that all civil servants who have been called to work are expected to report at their workstations on the date they are scheduled to commence work.
Ambassador Wutawunashe also confirmed that government will apply the principle of no work no pay in respect of civil servants who do no report for duty, a principle that is fair to clients who are entitled to services and those civil servants who report for work.

This Friday’s meeting comes as government has reaffirmed its commitment to continuous and fruitful engagement with its workers towards improving conditions of service.
Meanwhile, more public officials continue to give a seal of approval to the Covid-19 vaccine after commissioners from the Public Service Commission (PSC) were vaccinated this week.
Among those who received the life-saving jab is PSC Deputy Chairperson, Dr. Nomathemba Ndiweni-Masuku.
Other Public Service Commissioners vaccinated include Dr. Rosemary Tsitsi Choruma, Ozias Hove, George Chigora and Professor Carroll Khombe.
PSC Chairperson, Dr. Vincent Hungwe was vaccinated a week ago, dispelling unfounded and misleading rumours about the vaccine on social media.
