Police Officer Arrested For Defying Lockdown Regulations

By Staff Reporter

Beitbridge Police Officer Mtokozisi Ndlovu(33) was arrested last week for unnecessary movement during national lockdown at Beitbridge boarder post.

Ndlovu was moving around the border area, off duty and without exemption letter when he faced arrest from a team of police officers, Zimbabwe National Army and Presidents office who were on operation.

The accused was referred to Beitbridge police station where he was asked to pay a fine of RTGS 500 but he rather asked for permission to consult his lawyers first.

He, however, paid the fine the following day which his lawyers disputed on grounds that the accused paid the fine under duress after he had been threatened with detention by the arresting details.
