Hopewell Chin’ono Speaks After Spending 19 Days In Prison

By Staff Reporter
HARARE – Award winning journalist Hopewell Chin’ono says his arrest was arbitrary and based on lies , after spending 19 days behind bars.
Below is his full text…..
I am back from 19 days of incarceration at Chikurubi Prison after the Zimbabwe Republic Police LIED in court that I had tweeted about a child being killed by one of their officers.
My arrest was arbitrary and based on a LIE, of what I NEVER tweeted as claimed in the police and NPA charge sheet attached below!
The tragedy is made worse by the fact that the charge itself was anchored by a law that DOESN’T exist at all, but unfortunately upheld by the magistrates court when I was arrested!
Thank you ALL for the massive show of support and solidarity!
Prison guards told us of your daily postings!
Job Sikhala sends his regards too and thanks you for your support after his arrest!🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿
