HARARE – Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister Sibusiso Moyo has died.
The Acting Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Mr George Charamba confirmed the news, saying the Minister succumbed to covid-19 at a hospital in Harare early Wednesday morning.
“His Excellency the President, Cde E.D. Mnangagwa, regrets to announce the passing on early this morning of Dr S.B. Moyo, our Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade. the late Minister succumbed to Copvid-19 at a local hospital.
“The nation will be kept apprised of further developments regarding this untimely demise of the late Minister, himself a decorated soldier and freedom fighter ,” said Mr Charamba.
Retired Lt. Col Moyo was born in Mberengwa and he joined the liberation struggle in the 1970s.
At independence, he was attested into the Zimbabwe National Army, rising through the ranks to become Major General.
In December 2017 he retires from the army and was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade.
He will be remembered for steering the New Dispensation’s Engagement and Re-Engagement drive, meant to establish mutually-beneficial relation between Zimbabwe and former allies, as well as new ones.
